A friend of mine and I currently have 3 jeeps. Here they are:
2005 GC Laredo V8 with Quadra-Drive I 2004 GC Laredo V8 with Quadra-Trac II 2001 GC Laredo I6 with Select-Trac Today we tried driving the right front tire up a steep snow bank just to try out the 4WD of each. It was like driving the right-front up a ramp on an overall slippery surface. The result really surprised me: The 2005 easy pushed right over the bank with a little momentum, with a slow approach of the right front climbing the bank it could not climb it but it did at least get all 4 wheels spining at various times...it was sort of intermittent though...like the computer was rotating around trying to find a tire that would grip. The 2004 was strange....it simply spun the right rear and left front tires. I thought that I had limited slip rear diff but with only one rear tire spinning I am not so sure. There was a strange, clicking or clunking noise that I am sure what it was. I had expected to see 3 tires turning. The 2001 was even stranger...even with the select-trac in "part-time" 4wd it would only get the right rear tire spinning the entire front seemed dead. I thought the Part time setting locked the center diff? Any comments appreciated. |

Is the LSD really junk then? I had a 91 Jeep Cherokee without a LSD and it was aweful then my 2000 had a rear LSD and it felt like a world of difference...that is why I was so surprised at the result of our little test.

I have traclok on my rear axle and it doesn't lock the tires at all.
When one of the rear rotates 5x, the other side will only rotates 1x (tried that on ice). My 242 engages right away when I put it in part time mode (wheel hop when I turn it to left or right), I suspect there is something wrong with your 01.

I suspect that your t-case wasn't really in part-time mode, otherwise it would have been spinning a front tire.
