Default New Mexico mud and WK don't mix

Went on a local Forest Service road today and ran into some very slick mud. Jeep did alright going UP a hill but had more trouble coming down it. Twice got sideways before coming back around straight. This was going slow in LOW range without using brakes. On the highway coming home had vibration and a burning tire smell. Stopped and found mud between the "bolt" and the inside of the tire had heated up the tire from rubbing. Went straight to a car wash and used the hand-held wand on the wheel wells the whole time. Got home and found the inside of all the rims were still caked with mud, causing the vibration, and the front suspension was enveloped in mud. Also the brake calipers. Spent over an hour with high pressure stream from hose and a screwdriver. Our mud has a very high clay content and it STICKS. Direct spray from hose did not touch it without help from a screwdriver. Nice and clean now and I won't be going back on that road for a while. No pictures because I was intent on getting the mud off before it dried and became like concrete.
Moral of the story is get the mud off after getting caked with it. Personally, I prefer rocks, sand, snow, or anything over sticky mud.

I know what you're talking about with the vibration. I went wheeling and on the way home at 65mph+ there was a real bad vibration. It almost felt like my suspension was failing. Anyhow, I pressure washed the mud off of the undercarriage and have had no problems since.

Speed wobble! I had to race to take a friend to the train station and couldn't go over 50mph without that vibration! It's the worst, I had to crawl under the car and use a screwdriver to scrape it out.. wait for a nice cold freezing night (if you get them) and it should make it easier

Of course always better to do it before it begins to dry and becomes like cement!

I've been told a good coating of PAM (or any cooking spray) beforehand is helpful. Supposedly the mud just falls right off once a sprayer hits it. Seems like it'd work but i've never tried it

I've heard of that too but I was not planning on getting involved in mud that day. You have to wonder about the sanity of someone who plans something like that and goes out and sprays the undercarriage first. That would not be me!

PAM works pretty well, as will WD-40 in a pinch. Great for quick cleanup of the fender liner, wheels, and easy to reach suspension parts.
